TEAM EFFECTIVENESS
The bottom line for all teams is the results they seek. Teams form conclusions, make decisions, plan tasks, find solutions, and implement activities to achieve the results they seek. Challenges of Team Effectiveness emerge from the various histories, perspectives, skills, prejudices, assumptions, attitudes, beliefs, insights, successes, failures, deep-rooted differences, and behavioral contingencies of the individuals forming each team. The interaction of these factors forms a complex and dynamic environment in which success is always defined as the expected result. Realistically, however, anyone of these factors can inhibit the effectiveness of any team. While individuals may be resilient, teams are fragile. TNG builds team effectiveness by working with clients to link strategic plans with operational tasks.
As with Coaching, the art of building team effectiveness is an iterative process in which TNG and clients work together to clarify strategic goals, balance team membership, and enhance team effectiveness. Throughout this process, TNG and clients engage iterative cycles of definition, exploration, assessment, review, development, and measurement to resolve the specific needs of clients related to enhancing team effectiveness.
TNG TEAM EFFECTIVENESS BUILDING CYCLE
Defining:
TNG works with clients to define in-depth the team’s reason-for-existence, its strategic and operational purpose. From this, the client comes to a deeper understanding of its strategic direction. TNG also works with clients to define the role requirements for team leaders and the desired behaviors of team members. Here team leaders and members learn what is required to be perceived as effective by appropriate levels of management.
Exploring:
TNG assists clients in exploring what it means for them to be highly effective in their specific organizations. Here TNG assists clients in exploring good, better, and best practices of teams and leaders and adopting the most appropriate practices for the given situation.
Assessing:
TNG assists client in assessing current team behaviors, motivators, and contingencies.
Reviewing:
TNG assists clients in resolving the gap between current and required team behaviors. Here TNG reviews the motivational and behavioral profiles of team members, and leaders.
Developing:
TNG assists clients in developing more effective teams and their leaders. Here TNG working with clients develops action plans to overcome team and leader deficiencies and initiate change while enhancing the softskills that enhance team and leader effectiveness.
Measuring:
TNG assist clients in measuring the progress-to-plan in building the critical skills targeted in team development programs. Here TNG also measures the impact of team and leadership development facilitation on the total environment including culture, performance, and expectations of success.
