A core component of our Coaching Skill Development Practice is our focus on life-long learning. Whether it be problem solving, skill enhancement, or knowledge acquisition, successful individuals continually seek to sharpen their intellects and master new skills. For these persons, competence is not an insult; it is an intimate attribute of their lives.

Through our affiliation with The Systems Management Institute, we offer life long learning opportunities designed to increase the client effectiveness in the attainment of excellence. Our programs are more practical than theoretical and focus on doing.

Agreeing with Dr. Gene Kerfoot of the Monterey Bay Management Group, we believe that task competencies: (1) are grounded in personal skills; (2) exist along a continuum of levels; (3) start with relevant information; (4) exist in relation to specific tasks; (5) are improved by practice; (6) are measured by selective judgments of performance, and (7) satisfy a criterion of "good enough".

Along with Evers, Rush, and Berdrow (1998), we believe that competence consists of general and specialized knowledge. While the specialized knowledge includes discipline-specific knowledge, the general knowledge includes managing self, communicating well, managing people and tasks, and mobilizing innovation and change.
